Climate change has been a hot topic in all sectors for some years now, pushing industries to adopt eco. friendly solutions where possible. The yachting industry is no exception, and great attention and effort has been put on sustainability by the maritime community, as well as by the owners themselves. The oceans are the engine of our planet and the driving force of superyacht activity. Without a healthy marine ecosystem, no yacht ownership would be possible. For this reason, most of the engineers, designers and shipyards are adopting “green” solutions by pushing the technological sectors towards innovation, therefore contributing to reducing the sector’s environmental impact.
ENERGY BOAT CHALLENGE 2023: AT THE FOREFRONT OF SUSTAINABLE INNOVATION
The Energy Boat Challenge is among the most innovative projects in the maritime world, focusing on boosting sustainable solutions for a greener future.
The Energy Boat Challenge takes place from 5-8 July 2023 at the Yacht Club de Monaco, celebrating its exceptional 10 years anniversary. This project, which is now considered a key event in yachting, has been launched a decade ago and brings together the main industry players and engineering students to progress alternative propulsion. Environmental sustainability is at the forefront of the industry’s discussions and actions, bringing professionals, institutions and foundations to get together and make the most of it.
An exponential environmental awareness
During these days, the Monaco Energy Boat Challenge organizes half-day conferences entitled Challenges, Engagement and Adoption to take stock of the challenges ahead and progress made. To boost green solutions, the 4th Hydrogen Round Table will also take place, organized by the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation, together with the Energy Transition Mission and the Yacht Club de Monaco.
50+ teams are the teams of this year’s Monaco Energy Boat Challenge, characterized by sea trials, qualification heats and maneuverability tests. It was all about strategy for contestants in the Energy Class, Solar Class and Open Sea Class to score the most points while demonstrating their boats’ capabilities and sustainable quality.
